- The 21st century has brought us marvelous advances in technology that allow us to communicate worldwide cheaply and instantaneously. That is a blessing when it comes to spreading the Gospel, but our spiritual Enemy is also using it to effectively spread evil. Our children and grandchildren are facing unprecedented access to harmful things online, and we can only protect them if we understand the scope of the problem and the options we have to prevent their access.
- The National Sexual Violence Resource Center estimates that 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men have experienced some form of sexual abuse in their lifetime. If we are going to be able to minister effectively to these people, we need to know what to say and do.
- It is estimated that 65% of child sexual abuse is caused by other children. This is a big change from the way it used to be, and that means we need to change how we supervise and protect children from harm. Since the changes are happening rapidly, it’s definitely hard to keep up, but help is here!
- In one survey, 70% of children aged 7-18 admitted that they had accidentally encountered porn through a web search while they were looking for something else. Children are never at fault when they are exposed to harmful things, but they are relying on us to help protect them. Technology is challenging for many of us, but there are things we can learn to do a better job at keeping our kids safe.
